Our client is an international Swiss industrial group with thousands of employees worldwide and leading technology and solutions for global markets.
The Head of R&D of one of the companies largest Business Areas will report directly to the Head of the Business Area (around 700 million revenue) and manage a team of 40 people organised in 5 teams.
The core activity of this department is the planning, development and design of market-oriented industrial machines, as well as the continuous optimisation of the existing portfolio as part of the product life-cycle management.
The responsibility of the Head of R&D is to lead the ambitious development programmes (both complete new products as well as redesign of existing products). Another key initiative are standardisation projects of modules and systems that can be used across a variety of product families.
This responsibility would include the definition and management of project plans, product roadmaps, budgeting and cost controlling.
Another of the core aspects of the position is the people management responsibility, which would include the talent development within the team and building-up a succession pipeline for team leaders and for himself/herself.
The Divisional R&D department has several interfaces and collaborations with other R&D teams within the organisation. The incumbent of the position will have the responsibility to foster this collaboration, in particular in designs and developments that have connections with standards, methods and tools.
The majority of the R&D resources and personnel are located in Switzerland today. One of the challenges and targets of the position is to design and execute the roadmap for the know-how and technology transfer and support to international R&D teams that will be located outside Switzerland, close to the customer needs and the local engineering teams.
Finally the scope of the position would include collaboration and interfacing with other internal departments, technical institutions, partner companies, international subsidiaries and as well customers.
We are looking for a candidate with an engineering or scientific degree and further education in business or economics (MBA or similar).
It is an absolute must to have experience in management of teams, ideally in a multi-site, international setup with certain complexity.
The hired candidate with bring experience in a mechanical engineering environment and know-how in automation is a strong plus.
Expertise in project management, people management and leading an R&D department of a similar size are core requirements for the position.
We are looking for a senior professional with excellent analytical, conceptual and methodological competences.
In terms of attitude, we are looking for a candidate with strong customer orientation and somebody who is results and deadline driven.
Social and intercultural competences, communication skills and persuasion are important skills the hired candidate must possess.
We expected the hired candidate to have availability to travel abroad (10-20%).
Fluent German skills are a must for this role, we would only consider German / Swiss German speakers.
